Explorer Post 1010 registered Team 6417 the Blu Cru in the 2020 FIRST Tech Challenge robotics program. The theme and title of the challenge was Ultimate Goal.

In the spring of 2020 Maryland FTC was absorbed into FIRST Chesapeake organization. And because of the pandemic, the process for regional competitions were revised. The traditional competitions were converted to hybrid or remote.

We kicked off our effort in early September. We set up a field in the Rockville Science storefront, given the library was closed. We were only able to recruit one new member. We ordered some new parts, but built an initial robot mostly out of parts from last year.

We had many concerns on when and how we would compete. We met at the storefront but not as often as we needed and with participation issues. We conducted a few outreach activities, including a class in programming Python. But the pandemic kept us out of the schools and other opportunities.

We signed up for two qualification tournaments in January and February, that would be conducted following a hybrid format in Fulton Maryland. As the competitions got closer, we switched to running the matches ourselves remotely in the Center's storefront.

The first remote qualifier was held during the week of January 23 to January 31 (17 teams). We ran our matches on the half field at the Rockville Science Center storefront. We submitted documentation for the Code and Control awards. We were finalist for the Connect Award. Our team ranking was 7th place. Here is a list of all the awards.

We participated in the second remote qualifier two weeks after the first (36 teams). We again submitted documentation for the Control award. We again used the field at the Science Center. Our scores were much improved, especially the teleop ring scoring. Our team ranking was 5th place. We received feedback on our portfolio.
