Explorer Post 1010 registered one team in the 2018 FIRST Tech Challenge robotics program.
The theme and title of the challenge is Rover Ruckus Recovery.
We are Team 6417 - the Blu Cru.
We kicked off our effort in early September 2018.
We built a starter robot to test out some ideas, and then built our final robot with new parts.
Here is a video of our
first drive chain.
We signed up for two qualifier tournaments, Walt Whitman High School on Sunday, December
9, and the Bullis School on Sunday, January 20.
To prepare for the tournament, we created an
engineering notebook, and prepared a presentation board for team judging at the tournament.

We didn't score great at
Walt Whitman HS
on December 9, but we receiving the third place
Inspire award and the first place Connect award.
Doing outreach is important, These awards gave us an advancement to the State
finals on March 3.
Here is a video of our
first round.
We could not hang on the Lander but got a few points in the Autonomous
period and moved a few elements to the depot. In our
second
round we had problems with the arm falling off.
We continued with outreach activities during the
winter, demonstrating our robot at local schools and
letting kids try to drive,

On January 12, 2018, Team 6417 headed to the
Bullis School
in Potomac. We scored much higher and were selected
for the finals. We took first in the Think award,
and third in Inspire again.
Here is a video of our
first round.
We hung up on the Lander and were awarded a Yellow Card. In our
second
round we did better and finally hung on the Lander.
On March 3, 2018, Team 6417 headed to the
Maryland
State FTC Championship. We had many
issues with the robot and do not have any useful
videos.
We decided we will do better next year with these
comments.
