Research in Assistive Robotics

Ways to Overcome Problems
In order for spinal cord assistive robotics to advance, cooperation between the academic, financial, and political spectrums is needed. Moreover, it is necessary to “build a community that welcomes people with disabilities” and allows them to attain their own independence with the help of robotics. In addition, new scientific information towards the central nervous system, rehabilitation, and spinal cord research is also needed to advance in such robotic technology. President Bush’s New Freedom Initiative policy has helped force assistive technology to the “forefront of research priorities” and helps the development of robotics that is a “true utility for the patient.” In order to be successful in the quest for better technology for society, researchers must reach out to new areas in technology and persistently expand the potential developments.

If cooperation between all these branches exists, then it will make research on advancements in technology for patients with tetraplegia much simpler.
