Research in Assistive Robotics

Future
The future of spinal cord injury robotics is leading to a method to regenerate the part spinal chord that has been affected by injury. However, current technology is directed towards “maintaining the health of bone and soft tissue” in the areas that are effected by degeneration. Robotics can help an individual with spinal cord injuries like tetraplegia, so that he/she can work and perform daily activities of life. In addition, robotics can assist in improving “surgical interventions” of such injuries. Also, future plans include “continued study of the mechanisms and healing of long bone fractures in our patients as well as implementation of educational programs to reduce their occurrences. Scientists are working towards improving such technology so that it is completely safe, robust, and allows an individual to return to his/her normal daily routines of life.

Although in most movies robots are viewed as tools for pain and destruction, their real place in the future is to help mankind.
