The Lockheed Martin Exploring Program Botball Team 1 is
submitting this report for the
2007 National Research and Design Website Challenge. We
spent time in December and January talking about the issues
of robotics in agriculture. We did research using the
Internet and collected articles. We played around with
several aspects of agriculture using our Botball kit from
2006. Finally, we built these web pages using a template
from last year.
We believe there is a significant place
for robotics in agriculture. We see robotics removing
the farmer from some tasks and giving them time to do more
important tasks. We see robotics automating plant
watering based on weather and needs of the plants. We
think robots could detect viruses and bacteria and warn the
farmer.
Our Report
Our report answers the four sections of the challenge.
Current Technology -
The current state of robotics in regards to agriculture.
Labor and Environment Issues- Capabilities that need to be improved to better
produce food when and where it is needed, at low cost,
while minimizing the negative effects on the
environment.
Future Direction - The
future direction of this technology and why it is
important.
Challenge - Tasks that
future agrobots need to perform. Features these robots
need to have. Technology (or cost) advances that are
needed.
We conducted an experiment into the software needed
to control one aspect of agriculture.
