Launch - March 17, 2018

Project Home

On Saturday, March 17, members from both teams traveled once again to the Great Meadow VA launch site for test flights. The day was cloudy, with little wind. We completed only four flights. The launch was curtailed because of snow in the afternoon. We used the NOVAAR launch rail, straight up.

Temperature=40F, Pressure=39.30inHg, Wind=2-5mph, Altitude=580ft

Objectives

  • Team 4053 red rocket one test flight and one qualification flight.
  • Team 4054 gold rocket one test flight and one qualification flight.

Lessons

  • .We arrived at 10am, but they launch team was not scheduled until noon. We helped set up the launch site with NOVAAR.
  • .Both test launches were low so we added significant weight. The second launches were much better.
  • The Red rocket had an issue with ejection on the first launch. Maybe the closure was not tight.
  • The Gold rocket had issue with the second chute opening late.
  • We need to schedule a qualification launch.
