Lessons from Beyond (Botball), Bob's paper

Welcome to our Beyond Botball 2009 web site. For the 5th straight year, Explorer Post 1010 participated in the national (Global) Botball Conference, Beyond Botball tournament.  We did well in the past and we did well again this year.

Team Name: "Botball Stimulus Package"

We fielded three bots that worked well together. Our plan was to score 400 points in the seeding rounds and win it.  But we recognized that we were going to have clashes in the competition rounds.  We planned to do some blocking of the opponents and hopefully score some points with at least one of our seeding round bots.

Our primary scoring bot was an XBC on a Create, called "Investment" bot.  It grabbed Botguy and collected all the golf balls.  It took then to the top of our hill.  As a final gesture, it removed toxic mortgages (orange poms) from the gated community house.

Our secondary scoring bot was XBC and Lego bot, called "Foreclosure" bot.  It collected houses from the opponents hill and repositioned them on our hill.  It started on top of the Investment bot and deployed a ramp to get to the game board.

Our third bot was a blocker wedge bot, called the "SEC" bot.  It was a thin bot sitting in front of the Investment bot. It was only used in the competition rounds, and it worked great.

We won the seeding rounds with a score of about 380 points (average of two highest rounds).  Check out Seed 1 video to see everything working.

  34x points   Seed 2 Video
  36x points   Seed 3 Video

We won the competition rounds, wining all four games. The first round worked just the way we were planning.

With this we won the overall competition.  We already have a challenge for 2010 at Edwardsville, IL.
