Lessons
Things we did well.
- Early testing - we were running bots on the table before
the project was half completed.
- Early integration - we were running both bots at
Rockville Science Day, two weeks before the competition.
- Our strategies were well thought out. In several
cases, when one bot had problems, the other bot scored enough points to stay
in the game.
- We had multiple people helping with documentation.
Team 130 had great documentation.
- Team tasks were spread out over several members -- good
team work.
- Team 129 was able to come back from major problems during
the competition.
- First and sixth out of 42 teams -- what else can we say.
Ways we could improve.
- We did not have backup hardware.
- Some members played games when there was work to be done.
- We had too many parts floating around from previous year
kits. We need to remove the temptations.
- We could have done more testing with Tribbles on the
table. We tried to compensate, but still have problems.
- We need to recheck everything before we go to the tables.
- We could have used the Time Out card during the final
competition rounds to adjust and recharge the bots.
- Additional sensors might help to improve performance.
