Project Home
On Saturday, January 21, members from both teams traveled to the Walkersville park launch site for test flights.
The day was foggy, ceiling around 400ft, but little wind. We got off 5 flights.
It was wet and we could not see deployment. Also flew some drones. Objectives
- Test a weighted down Red rocket with E20 motors.
- Test both rockets with 12inch cargo chutes.
- Test the Pink rocket with different weights around 310g using the E12-6 motors.
Lessons
- May want to try videoing a deployment from a drone.
- The Red rocket went way to low, because some how we weighed it down to 480 grams. It should have been around 380 grams.
It still flew relatively straight.
- The ignition sputtered in the Red rocket E20, especially the first flight. May have lost some power.
We need to be sure the igniter is in clean with a wad of tape to keep it in and build pressure.
- The E12s seemed OK for the Pink rocket, but the rocket still did not go as straight as we would like.
The motor mount and thrust ring holder seemed loose.
- The Pink rocket had its streamer 20% rip off again. We need to tape the edges of the Mylar streamers.
- The 12 inch chutes seemed to give a reasonable descent. Maybe loose more weight in the cargo unit and add weight to the booster.
Maybe another coat of paint to the booster.
- No eggs broke, and we recovered all rockets.
