Project Home

On Monday, February 6, members from teams all three teams traveled to the Walkersville launch site for test flights. The day was cloudy, cool, but with little wind. We used our 7ft launch rail. We conducted 7 flights.

Objectives

  • Test flights of all our team rockets.
  • Refine our recovery methods and chute sizes.
  • Get ready for qualification flights.

Lessons

  • Our biggest issue is descent times - we need to slow down - either more chutes or bigger chutes.
  • The motor selections are finalized.
  • Team 1639 added a second chute which seemed to slow descent.
  • Team 1640 had a launch that went off at a great angle, reducing the altitude. It may have been miss alignment of booster and cargo on the rail. Their descent is still too fast. A fin needs to be repaired.
  • Team 1641 landed on the road and needs to rebuild their cargo unit.
  • We had three blown igniters, but never with First Fire.
  • We had no issues with eggs breaking or recovery of rockets.
