Project Home

On Monday, December 28, members from teams 1639 and 1641 traveled to the Walkersville launch site for test flights. The day was cloudy, cool, but with  little wind. We used our 7ft launch rail. We conducted 5 flights.

Objectives

  • Test flights of all our team rockets.
  • Refine our motor selection and recovery methods.
  • Get ready for qualification in January.

Lessons

  • The F44-8W was used exclusively. We need to order more.
  • We blew out some igniters, but the First Fire igniters seemed to work well. Plugging the nozzle with a small ball of tape also seems to help. We had no sputters.
  • We had no issues with eggs breaking or recovery of rockets.
  • The major issue was the deployment of the recovery chutes. We need to loosen up the way we put the chutes in the rocket so they better deploy.
