New Horizon Spacecraft

Project Home

On Monday, November 2, members from all three teams traveled to the Walkersville MD launch site for test flights. The day was clear, nice, with little wind. We use our 7ft launch rail. We conducted 6 flights.

We left one rocket in a tree. Bob returned two days later with a long pole and recovered the rocket. This prompted Bob to purchase a 30ft tree trimming pole.

Objectives

  • Test flights of all our team rockets.
  • See if we can protect two eggs.
  • Try different motors.
  • Try different recovery devices.

Lessons

  • We gained experience and got back into the launch procedures.
  • Team 1639 and 1640 need to work on preparing their recovery devices.
  • The rocket in the tree reminds us that we must write our name and phone number on every part of our rockets.
