Project Home

On Wednesday, December 31, three members from team 15-406 traveled to the Walkersville Farm site for test launches. It was clear, wind about 8mph, but very cold - below freezing. We conducted two launches of their blue rocket.

Objectives

  • Several launches to find the proper weight for an F44-8W motor.
  • Try a 15in parachute for the cargo unit to reduce descent time.
  • Try a 3in spill hole to reduce oscillation..

Lessons

  • We increased the weight to 490g and got two flights just a little below the target of 800ft. In a windy day, we might need to go around 480g..
  • The 15 inch chutes did not slow the descent enough. We might need an 18" round or X chute..
  • Team 15406 worked well together.
