Project Home

Members from all four teams traveled to the Virginia launch site on Saturday, March 26 to try to qualify for the TARC finals. The weather was cool (50f) and the wind was variable (5mph to 10mph). We had little risk in recovery. We decided to stay late and complete our TARC qualification flights because the weather was reasonable.

Bob launched his Pringles rocket to use up an old motor.

Objectives:

  • Conduct one test and one qualification flight for each team.

Lessons and Actions:

  • We conducted 13 flights - the most we have ever done in one day. The range safety officer got tired saying Explorer Post 1010.
  • Almost all our flights were close to the target altitude of 750ft, The E30-7T performed very well.
  • We had problems with the deployment of the parachutes. The shock cord came apart (9212#1). The chute floated too much (9213#2, 9214#3). Or the chute did not fully deploy (9212#3, 9213#3, 9215#4).
  • Only one egg was broken.
  • We only had a few igniter problems. Two times we failed to reconnect the launch wires following another team's use of the adjacent launch rod.
  • The rocket weights were not reliably recorded.
