TARC Plans

We are planning several developments that will help us meet our goal of getting three teams to the National flyoff in May.

  • Build and fly some 3 inch diameter models, such as the Estes Big Daddy and the Mercury Engineering Invader.

  • Build a new launch system which will use a launch rail.  Check out Giant Leap Rocketry, and X-Rockets Launch Systems.  We got a rail from McMaster-Carr and lunch buttons from railbuttons.com.

  • Test methods of egg protection for the horizontal lying egg.  We have discovered that a large egg will fix sideways in a 3 inch tube or nose cone. One concept of egg protection includes using a liquid to solid foam structure to fill the egg cargo unit.

  • Work with a controlled ejection charge using time from launch or altitude as the trigger.  We have a Perfect Flight timer that will ignite a ejection charge (MT3T - miniTimer3). We are looking into an altitude sensing trigger.

We really like the style of the Lockheed Martin Atlas and the New Horizon cargo unit.  This mission is traveling to Pluto and beyond.  They are planning to go 750 million miles.  We only have to go 750 feet.  Look at our designs.
