Explorer Post 1010
Lockheed Martin Exploring Program
Launch - March 14, 2009

Members of team 7157 and 7159 traveled to the Maryland launch site.  It was cloudy, but almost no wind.

Objectives

  • Flight test RPE with F42 single use and F40 reloadable.
  • Flight test Basic (Bang) with F39 and F24 reloadable.

Lessons

  • The launch rail worked great, but we need a longer launch wire.
  • Something was wrong with the F42.  When recovered, the nozzle was blocked with melted material (nozzle?).  We need another test launch.
  • The F40 was way too powerful (labeled wrong?).
  • F39 worked nice in the Bang.
  • The F24 was assembled wrong. From now on, two people will work every reload assembly, and sign their name to the motor.
  • We can recover the fin and motor section of the Bang.
  • We tried to use the fire extinguisher, but need some training.
