Explorer Post 1010
Lockheed Martin Exploring Program
Launch - March 7, 2009

Members of team 7158 traveled to the NOVAAR launch site at Great Meadows in Virginia.  It was a nice day with wind around 5mph, but growing to 10mph.

Objectives

  • Flight test Kaboom with an F25-6W single use.
  • Flight test Kaboom with timed ejection charges at 4.7 seconds.

Lessons

  • All ejection charges worked with the 12volt N style battery.  Make sure all batteries have 12 volts before preparation of the rocket.
  • We may need to tape the nose cone on or tighten it up.
  • We need a launch checklist and follow it.
  • The launch rail worked great straight up.
  • Choking the chute brought it down a bit sooner.
  • We may have a problem with altimeter F - order a new one.
  • The F52-5T worked best.  Order six more.  We also need more 29mm reloadable hardware.

Launches (altimeter data)

  • The nose cone came off in the second launch giving a false reading
  • The altimeter failed in the third launch
