 We traveled to
the NARHAMS Maryland launch site on Saturday with a big team of 11
members. It was a nice day with wind around 5mph (gusts to 10mph).
We had five nice launches. We verified some assertions but raised some
issues.
Objectives
- Flight test Basic 2 with F24-4W.
- Flight test Special 1 with F52-5T.
- Flight test Special 2 booster with
F25-4W
- Test with real eggs in all flights.
- Test with altimeters in Basic 1, and
Special 1.
- Think about test with altimeters in
Basic 2, and Special 2.
- Think about timed ejection
charge in Basic 1 or Special 1.
Lessons
- All future rockets will use the
launch rail.
- We may need an F39 for the Basic
model.
- Ejection charges in reloadable must
have a sleeve.
- The fins on the Basic model need
improvement. They need to be stronger and not warped. We will go with 3/32 thickness, instead of 1/16
when making Basic 3.
- The cargo unit on the Special needs
to be tighter in the booster.
- We need to work on the ejection
charge and determine why it failed. We may need the heavier
9volt battery.
