To kick off the 2008 Team America Rocketry Contest, a group of Post 1010
Explorers worked during the summer on a new launch tower and a large rocket.
The launch tower was made of steel rails, held together by bungee cords.
The rocket was a
Loc/Precision V2 Kit based on the German World War II rocket.
The inaugural launch was Saturday, August
18, 2007. They used a G64-4W in a 29mm reloadable motor casing.
The weight was around 1200 grams with ballast to simulate two eggs.
The launch was loud and smoky, but it looked like it got over 600 feet.
It went relatively straight, but the wind was under 10mph. It landed
70 seconds later well past the playground. They may need to try a G71, reduce the rocket weight,
and use a smaller parachute. The launch tower worked, but it needs some
improvements and repair.
