Lockheed Martin Exploring Program
Team America Rocketry Challenge
Launch January 21, 2006

We had a great day to conduct our second test launch session..  The temperature was around 55 degrees and there was almost no wind.  We launched five TARC rockets, and three of them a second time.  We had some promising success and may be ready for a qualification launch in February.
  • We launched eggs eight times and only lost one egg.
  • We collected much more data then we did in December.
  • We downloaded four altimeter data sets.
  • The smaller parachutes seemed to help in getting down faster.
  • We have some good designs.
  • The launch tower, timer, data recording, parachute packing, and cargo loading operations went smoothly.

Lessons

  • We need to change the design on the BT70 shock cords -- elastic segments, pressure relief holes, or longer cords.
  • We need to check that the engine is tight in the engine tubes.
  • We need to make sure there is no possible vertical shifting of the eggs.
  • We need to weigh each rocket before launch.
  • Chute protectors seemed to work.
  • We need larger fins.
